CHS Level 4 is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 25% compared with a dwelling built according to the 2010 Building Regulations (which higher than the proposed 10%) and is considered optimal in terms of air quality benefits, especially if ultra NO x boilers and solar hot water or heat pumps are used 59 . The proposed waste incineration as a heating technology needs to be assessed in terms of its potentially adverse air quality impacts. The same applies to gas‐fuelled Combined Heat and Power as these systems need to run more intensely in order to supply power to the building, which in turn results in elevated NO x emissions 60 .
