4. Conclusions<br />

The spectral nudging technique prevents the regional model<br />

from generating internal states inconsistent with the driving<br />

fields as well as grants the model with freedom to develop<br />

regional and small-scale patterns. The simulations using the<br />

spectral nudging method show demonstrative skill in<br />

dynamical downscaling by (1) significantly reducing the<br />

model’s systematic error in simulating forcing variables; (2)<br />

largely improving the simulation of individual precipitation<br />

events, i.e. the intra-seasonal variability of regional<br />

precipitation.<br />
