Object pronouns
The following are the object pronouns in Yoruba
Singular
Plural
mi me wa us
õ you (sing.) yín you (pl.)
vowel of her/him/it wo≥n them
the verb
For the most part, the object pronoun’s tone depends on the tone
of the preceding verb, if the verb has only one syllable. If the tone of
the preceding verb is a mid or a low tone, the tone of the object
pronoun will be a high tone. But if the tone of the verb is high, then
the tone of the object pronoun will be a mid tone. For example:
Kúnlé rí mi
Kunle saw me
Kúnlé gbà mí
Kunle accepted me
Kúnlé so mí (moœ$lõΩ) Kunle tied me up
The word for object pronoun that means “him,” “her,” or “it” is
usually a copy of the vowel of the preceding verb, if the verb has only
one syllable. For example:
Kúnlé rí i
Mo so ó
Adé gbà á
Possessive pronouns
I tied it
Ade accepted him/her/it
following are the possessive pronouns in Yoruba.
