Palacios, City Manager Marcela Tavantzis, Assistant City Manager SUBJECT: Strategic Plan 2009-2011 AGENDA ITEM: May 26, 2009 City Council RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council adopt a Resolution approving the City of <strong>Watsonville</strong> Strategic Plan 2009-2011. DISCUSSION: The City Council held two Strategic Plan sessions in February of this year. During these sessions, the City Council & City staff conducted an Environmental Assessment of the community, identifying its strengths, challenges, opportunities and threats. Upon completion of this portion of the preparation of the Strategic Plan, the Council identified its stated goals for the upcoming two-year budget term. The goals identified by the Council as the guiding principles for the next two years are: Sustainable Economic Development Page 1 of 2
Community Resources Educational Attainment City Image Safe and Healthy Community Each City Department Head then presented to the City Council a list of the current projects and initiatives that each department is pursuing, mostly based on the previous Strategic Plan, and also suggested some new initiatives that may further the Council’s goals. The Council added some additional proposals for the coming year, and then voted to rank the projects and initiatives. The result of this ranking process, as well as other details of the process, are contained in the Strategic Plan 2009-2011 document. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with the approval of this document. Implementation of the projects, programs and initiatives contained therein will be included in the upcoming budget or brought to City Council for approval outside of this process. ALTERNATIVES: The City Council could suggest changes to the document.
