WHEREAS - Watsonville California

DISCUSSION: The Auto Center Drive Pedestrian Improvements shall
enhance pedestrian safety by installing a crosswalk and pedestrian
improvements across Auto Center Drive at the intersection with Main
Street/State Route 152. Improvements include reconstruction of a
portion of Auto Center Drive, replacement of curb, gutter and sidewalk,
modifications to the existing traffic signal and restriping of the roadway.
On April 14, 2009, the City Council approved Resolution No. 58-09
(CM) that included approval of plans and specifications and called for
bids for the subject project. Bids for the project were opened on May
21, 2009. A summary of the bids are as follows:

STRATEGIC PLAN: This project is a part of the improvements
described within the Watsonville City Council’s 2007-2009 Strategic
Plan Goal I, Sustainable Economic Development, #12 – Construction
of Auto Center Drive Improvements.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Award of the project to the Don Chapin
Company is in the amount of $109,960.00. The project is being funded
with $110,000 from Caltrans Cooperative Agreement 05-CA-0216,
approved by City Council in Resolution No 102-08 (CM) on June 24,
2008. Any additional project costs shall be from Gas Tax funds.
