Course Selection Information<br />

The following informaon applies to all courses offered in <strong>Algoma</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Board</strong> secondary schools:<br />

• Students under the age of eighteen require parental approval for all decisions on course choices. Students who<br />

are eighteen years of age or older may accept responsibility for their own course choices;<br />

• All courses offered in the <strong>Algoma</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Board</strong>, except for some Health and Physical Educaon courses<br />

and some gender-specific courses, are open to both males and females;<br />

• Courses of study, for each course offered in a school, are maintained in the Main Office and are available for<br />

examinaon by parents/guardians upon request;<br />

• The courses offered by the secondary schools of the <strong>Algoma</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Board</strong> have been developed<br />

according to the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Educaon;<br />

• A clear descripon of learning expectaons is available to students prior to instrucon on the Ministry website:<br />

www.edu.gov.on.ca<br />

Course Transfer Information<br />

Students should select courses appropriate to their abilies and career plans. If students are having difficules, they may<br />

discuss a change of course with their Guidance Counsellor. A change may be approved aer consultaon with parents/<br />

guardians if the following condions are met:<br />

• There is room in the class to which the student has requested a transfer;<br />

• The transfer request fits the student’s metable;<br />

• Not more than half the me scheduled for the course has passed for level to level transfers in the same course;<br />

• The course requested is appropriate for the student’s educaonal and career plans.<br />

Specific school informaon about course transfers and changes can be found at the Guidance Office.<br />
