Fashion and Creave Expression, Grade 11 Open (HNC3O)<br />
This course explores what clothing communicates about the wearer and how it becomes a creave and entrepreneurial outlet<br />
through the design and producon processes. Students will learn, through praccal experiences, about the nature of fashion design;<br />
the characteriscs of fibres and fabrics; the construcon, producon, and markeng of clothing; and how to plan and care for a<br />
wardrobe that is appropriate for an individual’s appearance, acvies, employment, and lifestyle. Students will develop research<br />
skills as they explore the evoluon of fashion and its relaonship to society, culture, and individual psychology.<br />

Living Spaces and Shelter, Grade 11 Open (HLS3O)<br />
This course analyses how different types of living spaces and forms of shelter meet people’s physical, social, emoonal, and cultural<br />
needs and reflect society’s values, established paerns of living, and economic and technological developments. Students will learn<br />
how to make praccal decisions about where to live and how to create funconal and pleasing environments, and will explore<br />
occupaonal opportunies related to housing and design. They will also learn skills used in researching and invesgang living<br />

Parenng, Grade 11 Open (HPC3O)<br />
This course focuses on the skills and knowledge needed to promote the posive and healthy nurturing of children, with parcular<br />
emphasis on the crical importance of the early years to human development. Students will learn how to meet the developmental<br />
needs of young children, communicate and discipline effecvely, and guide early behaviour. They will have praccal experiences with<br />
infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and will learn skills in researching and invesgang quesons relang to parenng.<br />

Living and Working With Children, Grade 11 College Preparaon (HPW3C)<br />
This course focuses on the well-being of children in families and community sengs. Students will study child behaviour and<br />
child development in the context of relaonships with parents and others in the community, and will learn through research and<br />
by observing and interacng with children. This course prepares students for further study of children, familiarizes them with<br />
occupaonal opportunies related to working with children, and introduces them to skills used in researching and invesgang<br />
children’s behaviour in response to others. Prerequisite: None Bawang, Elliot Lake, and Michipicoten only<br />
General Social Science<br />
Introducon to Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology, Grade 11 University/College Preparaon (HSP3M)<br />
This course introduces the theories, quesons, and issues that are the major concerns of anthropology, psychology, and sociology.<br />
Students will develop an understanding of the way social sciensts approach the topics they study and the research methods they<br />
employ. Students will be given opportunies to explore theories from a variety of perspecves and to become familiar with current<br />
thinking on a range of issues that have captured the interest of classical and contemporary social sciensts in the three disciplines.<br />
Prerequisite: None Bawang, CASS, Elliot Lake, Michipicoten, SJD and White Pines only. Also offered as part of the French Immersion<br />

This course addresses three (or more) of the following quesons: What is a person What is a meaningful life What are good and<br />
evil What is a just society What is human knowledge How do we know what is beauful in art, music, and literature Students will<br />
learn crical-thinking skills in evaluang philosophical arguments related to these quesons, as well as skills used in researching and<br />
invesgang various topics in philosophy. Prerequisite: None Korah only<br />
World Religion<br />
World Religions: Beliefs, Issues, and Religious Tradions, Grade 11, University/College Preparaon (HRT3M)<br />
This course enables students to discover what others believe and how they live, and to appreciate their own unique heritage.<br />
Students will learn about the teachings and tradions of a variety of religions, the connecons between religion and the<br />
development of civilizaons, the place and funcon of religion in human experience, and the influence of a broad range of religions<br />
on contemporary society. This course also introduces students to skills used in researching and invesgang world religions.<br />
