<strong>School</strong> Support Services and Resources<br />
Guidance and Career Educaon Program<br />
The Guidance and Career Educaon Program is a vital and integral part of the Secondary <strong>School</strong> Program. Through the<br />
program, students acquire the knowledge and skills they need in order to learn effecvely; live and work cooperavely<br />
and producvely with a wide range of people; establish and pursue educaonal and career goals; and carry out their<br />
social responsibilies.<br />
Each secondary school has a Guidance Department, staffed by specially trained teachers and support staff, and equipped<br />
with resources and informaon materials related to careers and educaon opportunies.<br />
Counselling<br />
Students may request an academic counselling appointment through the Guidance Office.<br />
Student Success Teachers<br />
Each ADSB secondary school has a Student Success Teacher who works with students who require addional support.<br />
Transion Programs<br />
Each ADSB secondary school has a transion program designed to assist students with the transion from grade 8 to<br />
grade 9 and provide support to students in Grade 9. Contact the school Principal or Guidance Office for details.<br />
Computers in Our <strong>School</strong>s<br />
In every school, there are a number of computers that are available to students. Typically these computers are located in<br />
the library, but are also in other locaons in the school. These computers are available to students for the compleon of<br />
classroom based assignments and research. Each student and his/her parent or guardian is required to sign a Computer<br />
Acceptable Use Agreement prior to obtaining an <strong>Algoma</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Board</strong> login and password.<br />
Nave Resource Room<br />
W.C. Eaket and White Pines Secondary <strong>School</strong> offers the support services of a Tradional Mentor Worker. Aboriginal and<br />
non-Aboriginal students alike may access the social, cultural, and academic supports centered in this Nave Resource<br />
Room. The focus of this program uses tradional teachings to scaffold student success both as it relates to academic<br />
progress, and the increased awareness of local Aboriginal customs.<br />
