Girls Personal and Fitness Acvies Grade 11, Open (PAF3O)<br />

This course focuses on the development of a healthy lifestyle and parcipaon in a variety of enjoyable physical acvies that have<br />

the potenal to engage students’ interest throughout their lives. Students will be encouraged to develop personal competence<br />

in a variety of movement skills and will be given opportunies to pracse goal-seng, decision-making, social, and interpersonal<br />

skills. Students will also study the components of healthy relaonships, reproducve health, mental health, and personal safety.<br />

Prerequisite: None Elliot Lake only<br />

Outdoor Acvies, Grade 11, Open (PAD3O)<br />

This course focuses on the development of a personalized approach to healthy acve living through parcipaon in a variety of<br />

outdoor acvies that have the potenal to engage students’ interest throughout their lives. Students will develop and implement<br />

personal physical fitness plans. In addion, they will be given opportunies to refine their decision-making, conflict-resoluon,<br />

and interpersonal skills, with a view to enhancing their mental health and their relaonships with others. Prerequisite: None<br />

Healthy Acve Living Educaon, Grade 11 Open (PPL3O)<br />

This course focuses on the development of a healthy lifestyle and parcipaon in a variety of enjoyable physical acvies that have<br />

Health for Life, Grade 11 Open (PPZ3O)<br />

This course helps students develop a personalized approach to healthy living. Students will examine the factors that affect their own<br />

health and the health of individuals as members of the community. They will learn about the components of the Vitality approach<br />

to healthy living – an iniave that promotes healthy eang, an acve lifestyle, and a posive self-image. Throughout this course,<br />

students will develop the skills necessary to take charge of and improve their own health, as well as to encourage others to lead<br />

healthy lives. Prerequisite: None CASS, Michipicoten, WC Eaket, and White Pines only. Also available as part of the ADSB Outdoor<br />

Educaon Program at SJD.<br />

Personal and Fitness Acvies/Health Care Grade 11 Open (IDC3O)<br />

Personal fitness focuses on the development of a healthy lifestyle with an emphasis on physical fitness acvies including weight<br />

training and cardiovascular workouts. Students will be encouraged to develop personal competence in a variety of fitness movement<br />

skills and will develop and implement a personal physical fitness plan. Students will also study the components of healthy<br />

relaonships, reproducve health, mental health, and personal safety. Cerficaons may include Fitness Appraisal.<br />

Health care focuses on human anatomy, physiology, and basic medical terminology. Students will learn about the relaonships<br />

between lifestyle and personal health, and convenonal and alternave methods of disease prevenon and treatment. They will<br />

invesgate health care procedures and equipment in nursing, medicine, and denstry and will examine health and safety issues in<br />

health care and the environment as well as social impacts. Cerficaons may include CPR and First Aid. Bawang only<br />

Interdisciplinary Studies<br />

Applied Journalism, Grade 11 Open – 2 credits (IDP3O)<br />

This course combines expectaons from Interdisciplinary Studies, Grade 11, Open with selected expectaons from Media Arts, Grade<br />

11, Open and Communicaons Technology, Grade 11, Open. This course will help students create informave print, media, and<br />

electronic products for school and community audiences in diverse formats (e.g., yearbook entries, newspapers, radio and television<br />

broadcasts, photojournalism, web pages). Students will invesgate sources of informaon and compare differing perspecves on key<br />

issues, developing both a sense of news and news judgement. They will also learn editorial convenons and pracces, principles of<br />

print and web design, and management skills, and will explore legal and ethical uses of informaon that is made public, as well as<br />
