Introducon to Business, Grade 9 or 10, Open (BBI1O, BBI2O)<br />

This course introduces students to the world of business. Students will develop an understanding of the funcons of business,<br />

including accounng, markeng, informaon technology, human resources, and producon, and of the importance of ethics<br />

and social responsibility. This course builds a foundaon for further studies in business and helps students develop the business<br />

Canadian History, Grade 10 Locally Developed Compulsory Course (CHC2L)<br />

This course focuses on the connecons between the student and key people, events, and themes in Canadian history from World<br />

War I to the present. Students prepare for the Grades 11 and 12 Workplace Preparaon history courses through the development<br />

and extension of historical literacy and inquiry skills. Students explore a variety of topics highlighng individuals and events that have<br />

contributed to the story of Canada. The major themes of Canadian identy, internal and external relaonships, and changes since<br />

1914, are explored through guided invesgaon. Students have the opportunity to extend analycal skills with a focus on idenfying<br />

and interpreng events and perspecves and making connecons. Students pracse reading, wring, visual, and oral literacy<br />

skills, and mathemacal literacy skills to idenfy and communicate ideas in a variety of forms. Alexander Henry, CASS, Elliot Lake,<br />

Canadian History Since World War I, Grade 10 Applied (CHC2P)<br />

This course explores some of the pivotal events and experiences that have influenced the development of Canada’s identy as a<br />

naon from World War I to the present. By examining how the country has responded to economic, social, and technological changes<br />

and how individuals and groups have contributed to Canadian culture and society during this period, students will develop their<br />

ability to make connecons between historical and current events. Students will have opportunies to formulate quesons, locate<br />

informaon, develop informed opinions, and present ideas about the central issues and events of the period. All schools except<br />

Canadian History Since World War I, Grade 10 Academic (CHC2D)<br />

This course explores the local, naonal, and global forces that have shaped Canada’s naonal identy from World War I to the<br />

present. Students will invesgate the challenges presented by economic, social, and technological changes and explore the<br />

contribuons of individuals and groups to Canadian culture and society during this period. Students will use crical-thinking and<br />

communicaon skills to evaluate various interpretaons of the issues and events of the period and to present their own points of<br />

view. All schools except Alexander Henry. Also offered as part of the French Immersion Program at Elliot Lake and SJD.<br />

Civics, Grade 10, Open (CHV2O - 0.5 Credit)<br />

This course explores what it means to be an informed, parcipang cizen in a democrac society. Students will learn about the<br />

elements of democracy in local, naonal, and global contexts, about polical reacons to social change, and about polical decisionmaking<br />

processes in Canada. They will explore their own and others’ ideas about civics quesons and learn how to think crically<br />

about public issues and react responsibly to them. All schools. Also offered as part of the French Immersion Program at SJD.<br />

Classic and International Languages<br />

Spanish, Grade 10 Academic, Level 2 (LWS2D1)<br />

This course provides students with language learning experiences that will enable them to communicate in the language of study.<br />

Students will develop and apply their speaking skills in a variety of contexts, and will parcipate in acvies that will improve their<br />

reading comprehension and wring skills. They will also explore aspects of the culture of countries where the language under study<br />

is spoken by taking part in community sponsored events and acvies involving both print and technological resources. Students will<br />

expand their vocabulary and repertoire of language structures, the language they will use at this level will sll be simple. SJD only<br />
