Mathemacs of Data Management, Grade 12, University Preparaon (MDM4U)
This course broadens students’ understanding of mathemacs as it relates to managing data. Students will apply methods for
organizing large amounts of informaon; solve problems involving probability and stascs; and carry out a culminang project that
integrates stascal concepts and skills. Students will also refine their use of the mathemacal processes necessary for success in
senior mathemacs. Students planning to enter university programs in business, the social sciences, and the humanies will find this
course of parcular interest. Prerequisite: Funcons and Applicaons, Grade 11, University/College Preparaon, or Funcons, Grade
11, University Preparaon All schools but Alexander Henry and Hornepayne. Also offered as part of the French Immersion Program at
SJD.
Foundaons for College Mathemacs, Grade 12, College Preparaon (MAP4C)
This course enables students to broaden their understanding of real-world applicaons of mathemacs. Students will analyse data
using stascal methods; solve problems involving applicaons of geometry and trigonometry; simplify expressions; and solve
equaons. Students will reason mathemacally and communicate their thinking as they solve mul-step problems. This course
prepares students for college programs in areas such as business, health sciences, and human services, and for certain skilled trades.
Prerequisite: Foundaons for College Mathemacs, Grade 11, College Preparaon All schools but Alexander Henry
Mathemacs for College Technology, Grade 12, College Preparaon (MCT4C)
This course enables students to extend their knowledge of funcons. Students will invesgate and apply properes of polynomial,
exponenal, and trigonometric funcons; connue to represent funcons numerically, graphically, and algebraically; develop facility
in simplifying expressions and solving equaons; and solve problems that address applicaons of algebra, trigonometry, vectors,
and geometry. Students will reason mathemacally and communicate their thinking as they solve mul-step problems. This course
prepares students for a variety of college technology programs. Prerequisite: Funcons and Applicaons, Grade 11, University/
College Preparaon Bawang, CASS, Elliot Lake, Hornepayne, Korah, Michipicoten, WC Eaket, White Pines and SJD only
Native Languages
Biology, Grade 12, University Preparaon (SBI4U)
This course provides students with the opportunity for in-depth study of the concepts and processes associated with biological
systems. Students will study theory and conduct invesgaons in the areas of metabolic processes, molecular genecs, homeostasis,
evoluon, and populaon dynamics. Emphasis will be placed on achievement of the detailed knowledge and refined skills needed
for further study in various branches of the life sciences and related fields. Prerequisite: Biology, Grade 11, University Preparaon All
schools but Alexander Henry. Also offered as part of the French Immersion Program at SJD.
Science, Grade 12, Workplace Preparaon (SNC4E)
This course provides students with the science-related knowledge and skills they need to help them make informed decisions
in the workplace and in their personal lives. Students will explore a range of topics, including chemistry at home and at work;
communicaons technology; medical technology; gardening, horculture, landscaping, and forestry; and alternave life-sustaining
environments. Emphasis is placed on relang these topics directly to students’ experiences both in the world of work and in daily life.
