Mathemacs for Work and Everyday Life, Grade 11 Workplace Preparaon (MEL3E)
This course enables students to broaden their understanding of mathemacs as it is applied in the workplace and daily life. Students
will solve problems associated with earning money, paying taxes, and making purchases; apply calculaons of simple and compound
interest in saving, invesng, and borrowing; and calculate the costs of transportaon and travel in a variety of situaons. Students
will consolidate their mathemacal skills as they solve problems and communicate their thinking. Prerequisite: Principles of
Mathemacs, Grade 9, Academic, or Foundaons of Mathemacs, Grade 9, Applied, or a ministry-approved locally developed Grade
10 mathemacs course All schools
Foundaons for College Mathemacs, Grade 11 College Preparaon (MBF3C)
This course enables students to broaden their understanding of mathemacs as a problem-solving tool in the real world. Students
will extend their understanding of quadrac relaons, as well as of measurement and geometry; invesgate situaons involving
exponenal growth; solve problems involving compound interest; solve financial problems connected with vehicle ownership; and
develop their ability to reason by collecng, analysing, and evaluang data involving one and two variables. Students will consolidate
their mathemacal skills as they solve problems and communicate their thinking. Prerequisite: Foundaons of Mathemacs, Grade
10, Applied All schools except Alexander Henry
Funcons and Applicaons, Grade 11 University/College Preparaon (MCF3M)
This course introduces basic features of the funcon by extending students’ experiences with quadrac relaons. It focuses on
quadrac, trigonometric, and exponenal funcons and their use in modeling real-world situaons. Students will represent funcons
numerically, graphically, and algebraically; simplify expressions; solve equaons; and solve problems relang to financial and
trigonometric applicaons. Students will reason mathemacally and communicate their thinking as they solve mul-step problems.
Prerequisite: Principles of Mathemacs, Grade 10, Academic, or Foundaons of Mathemacs, Grade 10, Applied All schools except
Alexander Henry and Chapleau. Also offered as part of the French Immersion Program at SJD.
Funcons, Grade 11 University Preparaon (MCR3U)
This course introduces the mathemacal concept of the funcon by extending students’ experiences with linear and quadrac
relaons. Students will invesgate properes of discrete and connuous funcons, including trigonometric and exponenal
funcons; represent funcons numerically, algebraically, and graphically; solve problems involving applicaons of funcons; and
develop facility in simplifying polynomial and raonal expressions. Students will reason mathemacally and communicate their
thinking as they solve mul-step problems. Prerequisite: Principles of Mathemacs, Grade 10, Academic All schools except
Alexander Henry. Also offered as part of the French Immersion Program at SJD.
Native Languages
______________________________________________________________
Nave Languages, Ojibwe Level 3, Open (LNOCO)
This course will provide students an opportunity to expand their knowledge of a Nave language and of Nave philosophy,
spirituality, and values, and to enhance their identy and self-worth. Students will communicate by using a variety of phrases and
expressions, create short conversaons, skits, stories, and narraves, use informaon technology, and develop an awareness of the
structural and funconal workings of a Nave language. This course is open to students who have successfully completed LNOCO
Level 2 or who can demonstrate the required proficiency. WC Eaket only
Science
Biology, Grade 11 College Preparaon (SBI3C)
This course focuses on the processes involved in biological systems. Students will learn concepts and theories as they conduct
invesgaons in the areas of cellular biology, microbiology, animal anatomy and physiology, plant structure and physiology, and
environmental science. Emphasis will be placed on the praccal applicaon of concepts, and on the skills needed for further study
in various branches of the life sciences and related fields. Prerequisite: Science, Grade 10, Academic or Applied All schools except
Alexander Henry.
