Understanding Canadian Law, Grade 11 University / College Preparaon (CLU3M)<br />
This course explores Canadian law with a focus on legal issues that are relevant to people’s everyday lives. Students will invesgate<br />
fundamental legal concepts and processes to gain a praccal understanding of Canada’s legal system, including the criminal jusce<br />
system. Students will use crical-thinking, inquiry, and communicaon skills to develop informed opinions on legal issues and<br />
apply this knowledge in a variety of ways and sengs, including case analysis, legal research projects, mock trials, and debates.<br />
Prerequisite: Canadian History Since World War I, Grade 10, Academic or Applied All schools except Alexander Henry<br />
Understanding Canadian Law, Grade 11 Workplace Preparaon (CLU3E )<br />
This course gives students praccal informaon about legal issues that directly affect their lives. Students will examine the need for<br />
laws in society, the roots of Canada’s legal system, the rights and freedoms that people in Canada enjoy, and the basic elements of<br />
criminal law and dispute resoluon. Through experiences such as mock trials, debates, and case studies, students will apply inquiry<br />
and communicaon skills to develop and express opinions on legal topics of interest to them. Prerequisite: Canadian History Since<br />

This course offers students opportunies to further develop their knowledge of the internaonal language and to enhance their<br />
communicaon skills. Students will use increasingly sophiscated language in a variety of acvies that will enable them to speak<br />
and write with clarity and accuracy. Students will also enhance their thinking skills through the crical study of literature, and<br />
connue to explore aspects of the culture of countries where the language is spoken through a variety of print and technological<br />

This course emphasizes the development of literacy, communicaon, and crical and creave thinking skills necessary for success in<br />
the workplace and in daily life. Students will study the content, form, and style of a variety of contemporary informaonal, graphic,<br />
and literary texts; and create oral, wrien, and media texts in a variety of forms for praccal purposes. An important focus will be on<br />
using language clearly and accurately in a variety of formal and informal contexts. The course is intended to prepare students for the<br />
compulsory Grade 12 workplace preparaon course. Prerequisite: English, Grade 10, Applied Alexander Henry, Bawang, CASS,<br />
Elliot Lake, Hornepayne, SJD, Michipicoten, and WC Eaket only<br />

academic purposes. An important focus will be on using language with precision and clarity. The course is intended to prepare<br />
