Canadian and World Issues: A Geographic Analysis Grade 12 University Preparaon (CGW4U)<br />

This course examines the global challenges of creang a sustainable and equitable future, focusing on current issues that illustrate<br />

these challenges. Students will invesgate a range of topics, including cultural, economic, and geopolical relaonships, regional<br />

disparies in the ability to meet basic human needs, and protecon of the natural environment. Students will use geotechnologies<br />

and skills of geographic inquiry and analysis to develop and communicate balanced opinions about the complex issues facing Canada<br />

and a world that is interdependent and constantly changing.<br />

Prerequisite: any University or University/College Preparaon course in Canadian and World Studies, English, or Social Sciences and<br />

Humanies<br />

The Environment and Resource Management, Grade 12, Workplace Preparaon (CGR4E)<br />

This course examines the influence of human acvies on the natural environment. Students will study ecosystem structures<br />

and processes, the ecological impact of human acvies, and methods of responsible resource management. Students will apply<br />

geotechnologies and geographic inquiry methods to develop and present praccal soluons to environmental and resourcemanagement<br />

issues. In the process, students’ problem-solving and communicaon skills will be enhanced in preparaon for careers<br />

and the workplace. Prerequisite: Geography of Canada, Grade 9, Academic or Applied CASS, ELSS, WC Eaket, and White Pines only.<br />

Also available as part of the ADSB Outdoor Educaon Program at SJD.<br />

This course invesgates the complexity and fragility of ecosystems and the pressures human acvies place on them. Students will<br />

examine ecological processes, the principles of sustainability, and strategies for resource management, with a focus on the challenges<br />

of environmental degradaon and resource depleon. Students will use geotechnologies and skills of geographic inquiry to explain<br />

and evaluate various approaches to achieving a more sustainable relaonship between people and their environment. Prerequisite:<br />

Any university, university/college, or college preparaon course in Canadian and world studies, English, or social sciences and<br />

humanies White Pines only<br />

Analysing Current Economic Issues, Grade 12, University Preparaon( CIA4U )<br />

This course invesgates the nature of the compeve global economy and explores how individuals and sociees can gain the<br />

informaon they need to make appropriate economic decisions. Students will learn about the principles of microeconomics and<br />

macroeconomics, apply economic models and concepts to interpret economic informaon, assess the validity of stascs, and<br />

invesgate marketplace dynamics. Students will use economic inquiry and communicaon skills to analyse current economic issues,<br />

make informed judgements, and present their findings.<br />

Canadian and Internaonal Law, Grade 12, University Preparaon (CLN4U)<br />

This course examines elements of Canadian and internaonal law in social, polical, and global contexts. Students will study the<br />

historical and philosophical sources of law and the principles and pracces of internaonal law and will learn to relate them to issues<br />

in Canadian society and the wider world. Students will use crical-thinking and communicaon skills to analyse legal issues, conduct<br />

independent research, and present the results of their inquiries in a variety of ways. Prerequisite: Any university or university/college<br />

preparaon course in Canadian and world studies, English, or social sciences and humanies Bawang (alternate years), CASS,<br />

Chapleau, Elliot Lake, Korah, SJD and White Pines<br />

History<br />

Canada : History, Identy , and Culture, Grade 12, University Preparaon( CHI4U )<br />

This course explores the challenges associated with the formaon of a Canadian naonal identy. Students will examine the social,<br />

polical, and economic forces that have shaped Canada from the pre-contact period to the present and will invesgate the historical<br />

roots of contemporary issues from a variety of perspecves. Students will use crical-thinking and communicaon skills to consider<br />

events and ideas in historical context, debate issues of culture and identy, and present their own views.<br />

Prerequisite: Any university or university/college preparaon course in Canadian and World Studies, English, or social sciences and<br />

humanies WC Eaket, and SJD only<br />
