onSITE! and OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROGRAMS
a Specialized and Integrated Transition Experience
Central Algoma Secondary school offers the On-SITE Program which is a three credit, alternave educaon package.
Through experienal learning experiences, students will develop and enhance skills in the following areas: teamwork,
workplace management, and decision-making. The Discovering the Workplace Course (GLD2O) will serve as the
foundaon for the program and includes opportunies for students to visit worksites, job shadow, and engage in
valuable workplace experiences.
Outdoor Educaon Program
The Outdoor Educaon program at Central Algoma Secondary School is designed to provide an alternave learning
environment geared toward praccal skills. The flexibility of 3 consecuve periods of instrucon coupled with
the abundance of resources in the school’s natural seng, allows the program curriculum to be integrated into
outdoor acvies. These acvies meet expectaons in Geotechnologies (CGT 3E), Health for Life (PPZ 3O), and an
Interdisciplinary course (IDC 30). Expectaons of the Health for Life course are met through such acvies as hiking,
canoeing, snowshoeing, cross county skiing, and drugs/alcohol/mental health educaon. The Geotechnologies course
expectaons are met through GIS training, as well as GPS, compass and map reading skills. The Interdisciplinary Studies
course is focused on outdoor skills and includes things such as weather and climate studies, shelter making, outdoor
cooking, fire starng, and general safety in the outdoors.
