HEALTH AND SPORT SPECIALTY PROGRAM<br />

AT BAWATING COLLEGIATE<br />

MISSION STATEMENT<br />

Sault Ste. Marie has produced professionals such as Ron Francis and Dr. Roberta Bondar who have substanally contributed to the<br />

health and athlec fields. The Bawang Health and Sport Specialty Program is an innovave program designed to support, develop<br />

and enhance a student’s goal of working in a health or athlec related field or pursue athlec dreams while connuing academic<br />

success.<br />

PROGRAM RATIONALE<br />

This unique program offers special training and cerficaon to students pursuing careers in health<br />

care, athlecs, recreaon and other related fields. Student-athletes can take advantage of our flexible<br />

schedule in a variety of Ministry approved courses while earning paral credit for their athlec<br />

training.<br />

The curriculum will concentrate on the healthy acve theme. This program will help students<br />

develop the knowledge, skills, and atudes needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle, as it will promote<br />

a commitment to lifelong parcipaon in physical acvity and encourage the pursuit of a career in a<br />

health or athlec related industry.<br />

PROGRAM CRITERIA<br />

• A commiee of Bawang staff will select candidates through an applicaon process.<br />

• A minimum 65% average is required to gain entrance.<br />

• Health and Sport Specialty students must maintain a 65% average throughout the program.<br />

• The Health and Sport Specialty applicant must have a high degree of interest in the athlec or health care fields.<br />

• The applicant must adhere to performance indicators developed in consultaon with program mentors.<br />

• All students within the program will be mentored by Health and Sport Specialty staff to ensure expectaons are met.<br />
