World History : The West and the World , Grade 12, University Preparaon (CHY4U)<br />
This course invesgates the major trends in Western civilizaon and world history from the sixteenth century to the present.<br />
Students will learn about the interacon between the emerging West and other regions of the world and about the development of<br />
modern social, polical, and economic systems. They will use crical-thinking and communicaon skills to invesgate the historical<br />
roots of contemporary issues and present their conclusions.<br />
Prerequisite: Any university or university/college preparaon course in Canadian and world studies, English, or social sciences and<br />
humanies Bawang, Elliot Lake, Korah, Michipicoten, SJD and White Pines only<br />

This course explores the history of the world since the sixteenth century, emphasizing the interacon between the emerging West<br />
and other regions of the world. Students will learn about a variety of economic, social, and polical systems and the changes they<br />
have undergone over me. Students will apply their developing skills of historical inquiry to understand and communicate ideas<br />
about the forces that have formed our modern world. Prerequisite: Any university, university/college, or college preparaon course<br />
in Canadian and world studies, English, or social sciences and humanies CASS (alternate years), Michipicoten, White Pines and WC<br />

Polics<br />
Canadian and World Polics, Grade 12, University Preparaon (CPW4U)<br />
This course examines Canadian and world polics from a variety of perspecves. Students will invesgate the ways in which<br />
individuals, groups, and states work to influence domesc and world events, the role of polical ideologies in naonal and<br />
internaonal polics, and the dynamics of internaonal cooperaon and conflict resoluon. Students will apply crical thinking and<br />
communicaon skills to develop and support informed opinions about current polical conflicts, events, and issues.<br />
Prerequisite: Any university or university/college preparaon course in Canadian and world studies, English, or social sciences and<br />

This course emphasizes the consolidaon of the literacy, communicaon, and crical and creave thinking skills necessary for success<br />
in academic and daily life. Students will analyse a range of challenging literary texts from various periods, countries, and cultures;<br />
interpret and evaluate informaonal and graphic texts; and create oral, wrien, and media texts in a variety of forms. An important<br />
focus will be on using academic language coherently and confidently, selecng the reading strategies best suited to parcular<br />
texts and parcular purposes for reading, and developing greater control in wring. The course is intended to prepare students for<br />
university, college, or the workplace. Prerequisite: English, Grade 11, University Preparaon All schools except Alexander Henry<br />

This course emphasizes the consolidaon of literacy, communicaon, and crical and creave thinking skills necessary for success<br />

in the workplace and in daily life. Students will analyse informaonal, graphic, and literary texts and create oral, wrien, and media<br />
texts in a variety of forms for workplace-related and praccal purposes. An important focus will be on using language accurately and<br />
organizing ideas and informaon coherently. The course is intended to prepare students for the workplace and acve cizenship.<br />
