Media Studies, Grade 11 Open (EMS3O)<br />
This course emphasizes knowledge and skills that will enable students to understand media communicaon in the twenty-first<br />
century and to use media effecvely and responsibly. Through analysing the forms and messages of a variety of media works and<br />
audience responses to them, and through creang their own media works, students will develop crical thinking skills, aesthec<br />
and ethical judgment, and skills in viewing, represenng, listening, speaking, reading, and wring. Prerequisite: English, Grade 10,<br />

French As a Second Language<br />

Core French, Grade 11, Open (FSF3O)<br />
This course draws on a broad theme, such as leisure acvies, to develop oral communicaon, reading, and wring skills. Students<br />
will give presentaons, read a selecon of short stories and arcles, and produce a variety of wrien assignments. The use of correct<br />
grammar and appropriate language convenons in both spoken and wrien French will be emphasized throughout the course.<br />
Prerequisite: Core French, Grade 10, Academic or Applied Chapleau only<br />
Core French, Grade 11 University Preparaon (FSF3U)<br />
This course draws on a variety of themes to promote extensive development of reading and wring skills and to reinforce oral<br />
communicaon skills. Students will gain a greater understanding of French-speaking cultures in Canada and around the world<br />
through their reading of a variety of materials, including a short novel or a play. Students will produce various wrien assignments,<br />
including a formal essay. The use of correct grammar and appropriate language convenons in both spoken and wrien French<br />
will be emphasized throughout the course. Prerequisite: Core French, Grade 10, Academic Bawang, CASS, Chapleau, Korah,<br />
Michipicoten, SJD, WC Eaket, and White Pines only<br />

French Immersion, Grade 11 University Preparaon (FIF3U)<br />
This course develops knowledge and language skills through the study of francophone literature and culture from around the world.<br />
Students will study novels, plays, poems, short stories, films, and non-ficon works and produce wrien assignments in a variety<br />
of forms, including criques and précis. They will also write a formal research essay. The use of correct grammar and appropriate<br />
language convenons in both spoken and wrien French will be emphasized throughout the course. Prerequisite: French Immersion,<br />
Grade 10, Academic Offered at Elliot Lake and as part of the French Immersion Program at SJD and Chapleau<br />

Designing Your Future, Grade 11 Open (GWL3O)<br />
This course prepares students to make successful transions to postsecondary desnaons as they invesgate specific postsecondary<br />
opons based on their skills, interests, and personal characteriscs. Students will explore the realies and opportunies of the<br />
workplace and examine factors that affect success, while refining their job search and employability skills. Students will expand their<br />
porolios with a focus on their targeted desnaon and develop an acon plan for future success. Prerequisite: Career Studies,<br />
Grade 10, Open Chapleau, Michipicoten, and WC Eaket only<br />
Leadership and Peer Support, Grade 11 Open (GPP3O)<br />
This course prepares students to act in leadership and peer support roles. They will design and implement a plan for contribung to<br />
their school and/or community; develop skills in communicaon, interpersonal relaons, teamwork, and conflict management; and<br />
apply those skills in leadership and/or peer support roles – for example, as a student council member or a peer tutor. Students will<br />
examine group dynamics and learn the value of diversity within groups and communies. Prerequisite: Career Studies, Grade 10,<br />
Open Bawang, CASS, Elliot Lake, Michipicoten, SJD, WC Eaket, and White Pines only<br />
