Discovering the Workplace, Grade 10 Open (GLD2O)<br />

This course provides students with opportunies to discover and develop the workplace essenal skills and work habits required to<br />

be successfully employed, and helps students make plans for connued learning and work. Students will develop an understanding<br />

of work through praccal hands-on experiences in the school and in the community, using real workplace materials. Students<br />

will invesgate occupaons of interest through experienal learning opportunies, such as worksite visits, job shadowing, work<br />

experience, simulaons, and entrepreneurial projects. Prerequisite: None Alexander Henry, Elliot Lake only<br />

This course emphasizes regular parcipaon in a variety of enjoyable physical acvies that promote lifelong healthy acve living.<br />

Student learning will include the applicaon of movement principles to refine skills; parcipaon in a variety of acvies that<br />

enhance personal competence, fitness, and health; examinaon of issues related to healthy sexuality, healthy eang, substance use<br />

and abuse; and the use of informed decision-making, conflict resoluon, and social skills in making personal choices. All schools<br />

Girls Personal and Fitness Acvies, Grade 10 Open (PAF2O)<br />

This course focuses on the development of a healthy lifestyle and parcipaon in a variety of enjoyable physical acvies that have<br />

the potenal to engage students’ interest throughout their lives. Students will be encouraged to develop personal competence<br />

in a variety of movement skills and will be given opportunies to pracse goal-seng, decision-making, social, and interpersonal<br />

skills. Students will also study the components of healthy relaonships, reproducve health, mental health, and personal safety.<br />

Mathemacs, Grade 10 Local Developed Compulsory Courses (MAT2L)<br />

This course emphasizes the extension of mathemacal knowledge and skills to prepare students for success in their everyday lives,<br />

in the workplace, and in the Grade 11 and Grade 12 Mathemacs Workplace Preparaon courses. The course is organized by three<br />

major strands related to money sense, measurement, and proporonal reasoning. In all strands, the focus is on strengthening and<br />

extending key foundaonal mathemacal concepts and skills by solving authenc, everyday problems. Students have opportunies<br />

to extend their mathemacal literacy and problem-solving skills and to connue developing their skills in reading, wring, and oral<br />

language through relevant and praccal math acvies. Prerequisite: A Grade 9 Mathemacs credit All schools except Chapleau<br />

Foundaons of Mathemacs, Grade 10 Applied (MFM2P)<br />

This course enables students to consolidate their understanding of linear relaons and extend their problem-solving and algebraic<br />

skills through invesgaon, the effecve use of technology, and hands-on acvies. Students will develop and graph equaons in<br />

analyc geometry; solve and apply linear systems, using real-life examples; and explore and interpret graphs of quadrac relaons.<br />

Students will invesgate similar triangles, the trigonometry of right triangles, and the measurement of three-dimensional figures.<br />

Students will consolidate their mathemacal skills as they solve problems and communicate their thinking. Prerequisite: MFM1P or<br />

MPM1D All schools<br />

Principles of Mathemacs, Grade 10 Academic (MPM2D)<br />

This course enables students to broaden their understanding of relaonships and extend their problem-solving and algebraic skills<br />

through invesgaon, the effecve use of technology, and abstract reasoning. Students will explore quadrac relaons and their<br />

applicaons; solve and apply linear systems; verify properes of geometric figures using analyc geometry; and invesgate the<br />

trigonometry of right and acute triangles. Students will reason mathemacally and communicate their thinking as they solve mulstep<br />

problems. Prerequisite: MPM1D All schools except Alexander Henry. Offered as part of the French Immersion Program at SJD.<br />

Aboriginal Peoples in Canada (NAC2O)<br />

This course emphasizes historical and contemporary issues that affect the relaonship between Aboriginal peoples and Canadian<br />

governments. Students will examine legal, polical, social, and economic issues; key aspects of the Indian Act and its revisions that<br />

have an impact on the daily lives of Aboriginal persons; the different types of relaonships that Aboriginals peoples have established<br />

with other naons throughout history; and the methodology of historical inquiry. CASS and WC Eaket only<br />
