Transportaon Technology, Grade 12, Workplace Preparaon (TTJ4E)
This course examines the commonalies of land, air, and marine vehicles and transportaon systems. Students will develop safe
workplace habits and business management skills and will use diagnosc, hand, and power tools effecvely to service and repair
vehicles to meet industry standards and safety inspecons. They will also research the entry requirements for apprenceship training
programs and develop the employability and technical skills required for entry into the workplace. Prerequisite: Transportaon
Technology, Grade 11, Workplace Preparaon Alexander Henry, CASS, Elliot Lake, WC Eaket, and Korah only
Computer Engineering Grade 12 University/College Preparaon (ICE4M)
This course helps students understand and apply computer engineering concepts. Students will analyse and design computer
components such as logic circuits and interfaces; develop and construct systems and write the associated computer programs to
drive real-world devices such as traffic lights, models, and robots; and explore networking hardware, protocols, and configuraons.
As well as developing project management skills, students will examine the ethics of computer use and explore related educaonal
requirements and careers. Prerequisite: Computer Engineering, Grade 11, University/College Preparaon, or Computer and
Informaon Science, Grade 11 University/College Preparaon Korah, SJD, WC Eaket and White Pines only
Computer and Informaon Science Grade 12 University/College Preparaon (ICS4M)
This course helps students use programming and soware engineering principles to design and develop algorithms and programs.
Students will use soware development and diagnosc tools, implement data structures and algorithms, and use file management
techniques in project sengs. They will also develop an understanding of the ethics of computer use and the impact of informaon
technology on the community, and will explore postsecondary educaon and career paths in computer science.
Prerequisite: Computer and Informaon Science, Grade 11, University/College Preparaon Elliot Lake, Korah, Michipicoten, SJD, and
WC Eaket only. At SJD, students have an opportunity to earn a 2nd grade 12 credit and aain Sun Microsystems Java cerficaon
aer compleng an inial credit in ICS4M.
Computer Networking: Roung and Switching - CISCO Term 2 (ICR46)
This is the second of two courses designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in current and emerging
networking technology that will empower them to enter employment and/or further educaon and training in the computer
networking field. This course is equivalent to a 1 st year computer course at the college level and the student will be granted full
standing in this course at colleges offering CISCO programs across the province. Instrucon includes, but is not limited to, networking,
network terminology and protocols, network standards, LANs, WANs, OSI models, Ethernet, Token Ring, Fibre Distributed Data
interface, TCP/IP Addressing Protocol, dynamic roung, toung and the network administrator’s role and funcon, increasingly
sophiscated router configuraon (IGRP, Access Lists, IPX); switch configuraon; network troubleshoong skills, working in
engineering teams, self and project management, oral exams, and presentaons. The students will achieve awareness and access
basic technological literacy; awareness of IT careers; preparaons for 2 and 4 yr. EE, CS, and IT programs; access to well-paying,
learning-oriented jobs; ability to design, install and maintain internetworks. Instrucon and training are provided in the proper care,
maintenance, and use of networking soware, tools, and equipment. Prerequisite: ICN36. Korah only
