Computer Engineering, Grade 11 University/College Preparaon (ICE3M)
This course helps students understand how computer hardware and soware are used to solve computer-related problems from an
engineering perspecve. Students will explore ways of connecng computers, interfaces, and peripherals using their knowledge of
logic gates, computer components, peripherals, programming, networks, and operang systems. Students will also construct systems
that use computer programs to interact with hardware, install and configure key computer hardware and soware components,
develop an understanding of the ethical use of computers, and explore careers in computer engineering. Prerequisite: None
Hornepayne, Korah, Michipicoten, SJD, WC Eaket, and White Pines only
Note that at Korah, students will complete the course both in the classroom and on-line via the CISCO Networking Academy. Upon
successful compleon of this course, students will receive a Cerficate of Compleon from HP (IT Essenals I: PC Hardware and
Soware). This course will prepare students for the Industry-recognized (CompTIA A+ cerficaon exam) and offers them a
significant discount on the exam if they obtain a credit in good standing.
Computer Networking Foundaons -CISCO Term 1, Grade 11 (ICN 36)
This is the first of two courses designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in current and emerging
networking technology that will empower them to enter employment and/or further educaon and training in the computer
networking field. This course is equivalent to a 1 st year computer course at the college level and the student will be granted
full standing in this course at colleges offering CISCO programs across the province. Instrucon includes, but is not limited to,
networking, network terminology, and protocols, network standards, LANs, WANs, OSI models, cabling, cabling tools, routers, router
programming, star topology, IP addressing and network and problem solving techniques. Instrucon and training are provided in the
proper care, maintenance and use of networking soware, tools, and equipment. Korah only
Computer and Informaon Science, Grade 11 University/College Preparaon (ICS3M)
This course helps students examine computer science concepts. Students will outline stages in soware development, define
standard control and data structures, idenfy on-and off-line resources, explaining the funcons of basic computer components
and develop programming and problem-solving skills by using operang systems and implemenng defined pracces. As well as
idenfying careers in computer science, students will develop an understanding of the ethical use of computers and the impact of
emergent technologies on society. Prerequisite: None Elliot Lake, Korah, Michipicoten, SJD, and WC Eaket only
