Description.--Leaves <strong>of</strong> small size, ovate elliptical in outline,<br />
with entire margins, obtusely pointed apex and slightly cuneate<br />
base, <strong>3.</strong>5 cm. to 4 era. in length by 1. 5 cm. to 2 era. in, breadth.<br />
Primaries 3, <strong>of</strong> medium size, diverging at acute angles from<br />
<strong>the</strong> extreme base, <strong>the</strong> laterals regularly crowing- upward and<br />
joining <strong>the</strong> midvein at <strong>the</strong> summit. Secondaries not visible except<br />
i or 2 trmasverse internal ones, and a few curved camptodrome<br />
external ones.<br />
This species was identified by, Pr<strong>of</strong>. <strong>New</strong>berry with Paliatrus<br />
ova[is Dawson t which it somewhat resembles and this latter<br />
species has been reported by Lesquereux _ from <strong>the</strong> Dakota Group<br />
and by Hollick a i'rom Marthas Vineyard. <strong>The</strong>se occurenees may<br />
represent Dawson's species, but <strong>the</strong> Raritai_ leaves are obviously<br />
different, 'being relatively shorter and broader and <strong>of</strong> an altoge<strong>the</strong>r<br />
different aspect.<br />
