Jersey species is clearly not a Gleichenia, however, since <strong>the</strong> tiny<br />

fragment preserved is part <strong>of</strong> a fruiting plant, and while <strong>the</strong><br />

preservation is too poor for discerning <strong>the</strong> details, it is sufficiently<br />

good to show <strong>the</strong> remains <strong>of</strong> oblong-Ianceola_e sori on <strong>the</strong> lateral<br />

veins <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pinnules exactly as in many species <strong>of</strong> Aspleniun_, to<br />

which.genus it is consequently referred. It differs from any<br />

previously described Cretaceous forms, although a similar but<br />

larger Asplenium in fruit has been collected by <strong>the</strong> writer from<br />

<strong>the</strong> Magothy formatidn at Grove Point, Maryland.<br />
