from <strong>New</strong> Jersey and Maryland, as well as from <strong>the</strong> Bladen<br />
formation <strong>of</strong> North Carolina, <strong>the</strong> Middendorf formation <strong>of</strong><br />
South Carolina and <strong>the</strong> Tusealoosa formation <strong>of</strong> Alabama• It<br />
does not appear to be especially close to ei<strong>the</strong>r Andromeda<br />
Snozeii Lesq. or Andromeda linifolia Lesq. <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dakota Group<br />
with which Dr, l-tollick has instituted comparisons. Material<br />
from North Carolina definitely proves its Erieaceous affinities.<br />

Description.--Leaves thick and corlaceous, varying considerably<br />
in size and shape. From 4 cm. to 20 cm. in Ien_h by 1.5<br />
cm. to 7 cm. in width, ovate-lanceolate in outline, with an entire,<br />
usually somewhat undulate or unsymmetrical margin. Apex obtusely<br />
pointed or sometimes rounded. Base somewhat wedgeshaped.<br />
Midrib and petiole very stout. Secondaries relatively<br />
few, 6 to 8 eight pairs, stout and flexuous, branching from <strong>the</strong><br />
midrib at an acute angle and sweeping upward in long curves<br />
and eventually inosculating to complete <strong>the</strong> 'strictly camptodrome<br />
venation.<br />
T.his species occt_rs throughout <strong>the</strong> lower R_ritan in N_ewJersey.and<br />
at somewhat .higher horizons in <strong>the</strong> Cretaceous <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Sou<strong>the</strong>rn .<strong>State</strong>s. : It is larger, relatively broader and less regular<br />
than'And_'omeda PcMatoriiHeer, <strong>the</strong> two leaves figured on plate<br />
