Description.--Leaves elongate-lanceMate, very symmetrical in<br />
outline, Io c_'n.,to i 5 can. in length by i. 5 em, to 2 cm. in width,<br />
widest above <strong>the</strong> middle, tapering with almost straight sides to<br />
<strong>the</strong> elongate-acute base. Apex narrowed, subacute. Petiole short<br />
and stout. Midrib also stout. Seco,ndaries fine, <strong>of</strong>ten obsolete,<br />
I2 to *5 pairs, branching from <strong>the</strong> rn,idrib at an angle <strong>of</strong> about<br />
45 _ and curving upward, ¢amptodrome. Texture snbcoriaeeous.<br />
This species which was described from <strong>the</strong> Woodbridge locality,<br />
where it is common, has also been found in <strong>the</strong> overlying<br />
Mag-othy formation in both <strong>New</strong> Jersey and Maryland. In <strong>the</strong><br />
absence <strong>of</strong> complete and well-marked specimens it is <strong>of</strong>ten difficult<br />
to differentiate it from_ contemporaneous species <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r genera<br />
with similar lanceolate leaves.<br />

Descrlption,--Le_ves elongate-laneeolate, 8. 5 era. to 13 cm. irt<br />
length by- L6 cm. to 2, 3 cm. in width, with an obtuse sutfimit and<br />
a cuneate or somewhat obtuse base, occasionally deenrrent.<br />
Substance very thick and eoriaceous, Petiole and midrib very<br />
stout, <strong>the</strong> former longer than in most species referred to this<br />
genus. Secondaries invariably obsolete.<br />
This is <strong>the</strong> least well-defined species <strong>of</strong> Lau;rophyllum in <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Raritan</strong> formation and may represent leag variations <strong>of</strong> sorae <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r species. It also suggests <strong>the</strong> leaves which Heer describes<br />
from Greenland a_ _fyrica longa.<br />
It was said to be "no_ uncommon" by"Pr<strong>of</strong>. <strong>New</strong>berry, althongh<br />
he failed to enumerate any specific localities,. Later collections<br />
from South Amboy contain severM specimens.<br />
