certain <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir relation with Myrica and was inclined to associate<br />
<strong>the</strong>m with <strong>the</strong> triple-veined leaves <strong>of</strong> some Lauraeeous genus such<br />
as Cinnamomum, although <strong>the</strong> latter are entire as a rule, Cin_,amommn<br />
membranaceum (Lesq.) Hollick has a lateral sinus on<br />
each side, but is obviously a triple-veined leaf, while <strong>the</strong> present<br />
species, despite its appearance, is pinnately veined, as is well<br />
shown in a number <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> specimens.<br />

Descrfption.--Leaves small, lanceolate in outline, about 3 cm.<br />
in length by I era. in width. Apex and base about equally and<br />
acutely pointed. Margin entire in <strong>the</strong> basal half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leaf,<br />
above with somewhat remote and irregularly placed, sharp, denticulate<br />
teeth. Secondaries about six pairs, alternate, branching<br />
from <strong>the</strong> midrib at a wide angle and running nearly straight to<br />
within a short distance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> margin, where <strong>the</strong>y bend sharply<br />
upward and arch to join <strong>the</strong> secondary next above. <strong>The</strong>se arches<br />
are approximately parallel with <strong>the</strong> margin and give <strong>the</strong> appearance<br />
<strong>of</strong> a continuous marginal vein. Branches from <strong>the</strong>se arches<br />
enter <strong>the</strong> marginal teeth.<br />
'l_his species, while based upon fragmentary material, is well<br />
marked and quite distinct from any o<strong>the</strong>r member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Raritan</strong><br />
<strong>flora</strong>. Pr<strong>of</strong>. <strong>New</strong>berry failed to leave any memorandum, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
locality from which it was collected, and no subsequent specimens<br />
have been discovered.<br />
