Description.--"M. foliis eoriaceis, petiolatis, elllpticis, integerrimis,<br />

basi in petlolum attenuatis, nervis secundarlis angulo acnto<br />

egredientlbus, "_alde eurvafis, c_mptodrom_s, _Jternis tenuioribus."<br />

Heer, 1866.<br />

Tbls is a ra<strong>the</strong>r poorly defined species whose wide range is<br />

based for <strong>the</strong> most part upon very fragmentary material. It i_<br />

oblong elliptical in outline, 9 cm. to 15 cm. in length by 3 cm. to<br />

7 era. in. breadth, with a stout petiole 5 cm. to 7 era. in length.<br />

'Apex pointed. Base euneate to rounded. Midrib stout. Secondaries<br />

stout, separated by tertiaries, camptodrome.<br />

This species was described, originally from <strong>the</strong> Atane beds <strong>of</strong><br />

Greenland, and it has since been reported outside <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>New</strong><br />

Jersey area from <strong>the</strong> Cenomanian <strong>of</strong> Bohemia, <strong>the</strong> Dakota Group<br />

in Nebraska, Kansas and Minnesota, <strong>the</strong> Tusealoosa formation<br />

<strong>of</strong> Alabama and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Raritan</strong> (?) o£ Long Island. As previously<br />

mentioned, all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> references in <strong>the</strong> foregoing s_nonymy cannot<br />

be vouched for as regards correctness <strong>of</strong> ider;tification.<br />
