well marked species in any event, and <strong>the</strong> two forms which<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>. <strong>New</strong>berry figures show considerable variability. Fragmentary<br />
specimens <strong>of</strong> what <strong>the</strong> writer believes to be this species<br />
are present in <strong>the</strong> collections from <strong>the</strong> Hylton Pits.<br />

Descrfptiou.--Leaves palmately trilobate, <strong>the</strong> lobes subeqnal,<br />
linear in outline, subacute, divergent, <strong>the</strong> lateral lobes directed<br />
transversely to <strong>the</strong> median lobe, <strong>the</strong> intervening sinuses being<br />
deep and open and forming an angle <strong>of</strong> nearly forty-five degrees.<br />
Margins entire. Base truncate. Petiole long and stout. Midrib<br />
sto_t. Lateral primaries, which diverge from <strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
petiole, also stout, but somewhat less so than <strong>the</strong> t_idrib. A<br />
subsidiary lateral <strong>of</strong> finer calibre branches from <strong>the</strong> outside point<br />
<strong>of</strong> origin <strong>of</strong> each lateral primary. Secondaries irregular, ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />
straight, diverging from, <strong>the</strong> primaries at usually a wide angle,<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir ends joined by a marginal vein.<br />
This is a ra<strong>the</strong>r ill-defined and infrequent species and suggests<br />
<strong>the</strong> leaf which Pr<strong>of</strong>. <strong>New</strong>berry figured as dralia groenlandica<br />
Heer. A fra_oTnent has been reported by Hollick from Glen<br />
Cove, Long Island, and an equally poor fragment is contained<br />
in <strong>the</strong> present collections from South Amboy.<br />
