D_scription.--Leaves ovate in outline, 8 cm. to I3 cm. in<br />
length by 4 cm. to 7 cm. in, breadth, petiolate. " Apex extended,<br />
acute. Base rounded or somewhat descending. Margins entire.<br />
Principal veins 3, from <strong>the</strong> base, <strong>the</strong> midrib being <strong>the</strong> stoutest<br />
and slightly flexuous. <strong>The</strong> lateral veins diverge at angles <strong>of</strong><br />
about 45 ° and curve upward, traversing somewhat, too.re than<br />
tile basal half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leaf and' connecting with branches from tile<br />
lowest pair <strong>of</strong> camptodrome secondaries <strong>of</strong> which <strong>the</strong>re are<br />
several alternating pairs which branda from <strong>the</strong> midrib at a<br />
wider angle. <strong>The</strong> laterals give <strong>of</strong>f on <strong>the</strong> outside 8 to IO campto&one<br />
veins. Quadrangular areoles formed by nearly straight<br />
transverse nervilles" fill all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> intervening space.<br />
This species is very close to <strong>the</strong> same author's Ficus I/Voolsoni, .<br />
which is a much less elongated comparatively broader leaf, <strong>of</strong>ten<br />
with a cordate base in consequence.<br />
<strong>The</strong> very. appropriate name ovatc_ is antedated by Ficus ovata<br />
Don (18o2-o3), so that it becomes necessary to rename <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Raritan</strong> species.<br />
