,Descrlptlon.--Leaves oblanceolate or elongate-obovate in outline,<br />

5-5 cm. to 7 cm. in length by I.9 cm. to 2.5 cm. in greatest<br />

width. Margins entire. Apex obtusely rounded. Base somewhat<br />

elongated, narrowly cuneate. Petiole present, stout. Midrib<br />

stout below, rapidly diminishing in calibre. Secondaries<br />

numerous, 8 to IO pairs, alternate, branching from <strong>the</strong> midrib<br />

at angles <strong>of</strong> from 4o° to 45°, eamptodrome. When tertiary<br />

venation is distinctly preserved <strong>the</strong> venation is more typical than<br />

when only <strong>the</strong> secondaries are partially visible.<br />

This species is well distributed in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Raritan</strong> and has also been<br />

recorded from Long Island and <strong>State</strong>n Island. <strong>The</strong> identificatioi1<br />

<strong>of</strong> Myrsin6tes ? Gm_dini Lesq., with <strong>the</strong> eastern forms wi.th<br />

which it is obviously identical extends <strong>the</strong> range eastward from<br />

<strong>the</strong> Dakota Group <strong>of</strong> Kansas. It may be readily distingxfished<br />

from <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Rartain species by its relatively narrow elongated<br />

form. It is also present in undescribed collections <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> writer<br />

from, North Carolina and Alabama.<br />
