That is why I would assert that thework is best placed within the growing tradition of 'Living Theory':"We explain that practitioner action researchers should be seen as capable of makingsignificant contributions to quality theory, but to achieve this perception, they need toshow how they engage with issues of theory and knowledge in explaining why theirresearch should be assessed in its own terms and from within its own established scholarlytraditions." (Whitehead and McNiff, 2006 p. 5)At this stage of the enquiry, it does not seem appropriate to use illustrative moments approach totest existing theory. I make this claim on the basis of my knowledge of the field which indicatesthat there is no extant theory about auto/pedagogy or that no one has attempted to describe thealbeit theoretical space at the interlocution of epistemology, myself and (information)technology.Case study research is usually regarded as a qualitative method (see Silverman, 2001) and is thusgrouped appropriately at the end of the continuum of research paradigms with philosophical,theoretical and phenomenological traditions. However, this work arises out of a very groundedset of experiences and I propose the graph at figure 16 as an illustration of how the work ispositioned in relation to other aspects of human enquiry.
