w<strong>is</strong>dom on the ‘self’ in a quite mundane manner, <strong>to</strong> move from t<strong>here</strong> in<strong>to</strong> the ‘philosophicalattitude’ – Natanson’s concept attenuated <strong>by</strong> Sokolowski in<strong>to</strong> the ‘phenomenological attitude’ -so that a more detailed analys<strong>is</strong> can be under<strong>take</strong>n <strong>and</strong> then <strong>to</strong> present <strong>some</strong> conclusions which<strong>will</strong> inform <strong>and</strong> enrich further sections of th<strong>is</strong> study.<strong>It</strong> <strong>is</strong> my intention <strong>to</strong> see myself as both the subject <strong>and</strong> object of the research, adopting aphenomenological attitude w<strong>here</strong><strong>by</strong> I 'bracket out' those things that can be construed as 'no<strong>is</strong>e' inorder <strong>to</strong> get greater clarity on those moments that have been illustrative. But I also want <strong>to</strong>acknowledge that it would be impossible <strong>to</strong> bracket myself out of the moments as a 'nod' <strong>to</strong>objectivity, since, as <strong>will</strong> be seen in section 3.1.2, Moustakas (1994), a leading practitioner ofphenomenological research methods, affirms the contribution of the researcher's self <strong>to</strong> theprocess.
