Section 2.1: Relevant Literature About Knowledge (Epistemology)"True knowledge is existential knowledge. The act of autobiography, above all, reveals tothe student the truth of this proposition, and in so doing, prepares him to become aresponsible and responsive teacher." (Abbs, 1972 p.6)The purpose of this section is to set out as clearly as possible the sources and influences on myuse in this thesis of the term ‘knowledge’. As will be shown later in the thesis (section 2.2x),kNowledge (N 2 ), as I understand it, is a significant factor in the theoretical framework which thestudy is exploring.What lies at the heart of my inquiry is the question “How do I know what I know?” and thesubsidiary question, “If there is something that I don’t know, how do I set about trying to find itout?” Throughout the thesis, I take time to point out the moments when what I was learning intransit changed the way the study was developing and the epistemological processes throughwhich it was travelling. Though challenging to traditional research methodology, it is thisspecific organic, dynamic, living theoretical process that makes this thesis unique and, arguably,original.Within the context of the study, what I am talking about here contributes directly to that aspectof the framework that I characterise later as N 2 - kNowledge.
