But notice that, from the recount above, only 8 prisoners had mutinied. This same cannot be said with certainty of the 15 Marine infantry troops whoremained at their barracks and did not join the rest of their mates at Fort SanFelipe, perhaps because either they could not or did not care to. Izquierdo'sstatement adding the remaining 18 to raise the total to 41 is not quite accurate, since they had not "risen against the glorious flag of Spain," but were merely"apprehended by the Marine on suspicion of possible complicity in theincidents." This is inferred from the statement of Izquierdo whose legallanguage seems to have been rather imprecise.Sentence of the 13 condemned to die was carried out the day after theirconviction, i. e., 27 January. Tolentino and the 8 artillery men were executedon Bagumbayan at 7:00 o'clock in the morning; Manonson and the 3 MarineInfantry on the Campo de Instruccion in Cavite that same morning at 9:00o 'clocic.25In a letter to the Commanding General of the Marine on 31 January,Izquierdo expressed himself:The War Council has already condemned the rebels of Cavite as YourExcellency will see in the issue of the Gaceta I am sending you, and activelyfollows the procedures to impose the condign penalty on the instigators of theCavite mutiny.26In other words, judgment had been made after these two trials of the menconsidered direct participants in the rebellion. Among them was MaximoInocencio, whose sentence was deferred in order to cite him for another trialbecause he was also considered one of the organizers of the mutiny."THIRD AND FOURTH TRIALSThe third trial convicted First Corporal Rafael Calda and 11 more of theArtillery Regiment guarding Manila, "for the crime of conspiracy andantecedent knowledge of the insurrection attempted in Cavite."2s 4 of themwere first corporals, 5 second corporals, and 32 artillery men. This case was drawn up by the deputy commander of the Queen'sInfantry Regiment No. 2, Manuel Boscasa y Perez. The chief judge was againColonel Moscoso y Lara, with the following associate judges: ArtilleryCaptain Narciso Claveria; the Captain of the Infantry Regiment No. 3,Ramon Arce; that of No. 2, Victor Sanchez; that of No. 1, Francisco Salado;that of the same corps, Jose Perez; and that of the Artillery, Pedro Garcia.49
