The whole herb has a white or hoary aspect,and a very bitter, not unpleasantly aromatic, flavour. Its extract is apopular remedy for coughs and asthmatic complaints. Smith. It hasbeen recommended in chlorosis and hysteria as stimulating and tonic ;and also in the treatment of intermittents. An infusion of the leaveshas been found serviceable in chronic catarrh and humoral asthma.Made into syrup or confection and candied with sugar they form apopular remedy for slight coughs ;the plant although not much usedprofessionally, appears to deserve more attention than it now receives.Burnett.1028.
