Capsule opening with 4 or 5 lanceolate valves to each cell.Reputed to be purgative and diuretic. It is bitter. Its flowers havebeen recommended in decoction as a wash for chronic diseases of theskin ;and that it would not be an inactive lotion seems probable fromthe fact that in London the plant is occasionally boiled in milk for thepurpose of destroying flies.
