The characters of the genera and specieshere introduced are chiefly borrowed from Sir WilliamHooker's British <strong>Flora</strong>.VARIOLARIA.Thallus crustaceous, membranaceous, adnate, spreading, uniform.Shield a suborbicular, scutelliform cup, formed of thethallus, filled with a powdery or flocculent substance, whichcovers an immersed waxy disk containing imbedded thecae.1328. Commonon the bark of trees, and occasionally on pales, walls androcks.Crust orbicular, somewhat tartareous, thickish, glaucous white surroundedby a zonate border of various colours.
