ConclusionsA number of issues arise from the present chapter whichmay warrant consideration.Firstly, policy makers could learn much from a systematicsynthesis of diverse perspectives arising from assessmentsfor particular SDGs and from fully integrated perspectiveson the SDGs. Integration is needed across the threedimensions of sustainable development, for any thematicissue, across substantive areas of what is to be developedor sustained, and across a wide range of geographic andtime scales. In this context, the three recent ICSU/ISSCrecommendations on integrated SDG perspectives, contained in their “Review of targets for the sustainabledevelopment goals: the science perspective”, could becarried out jointly by scientific communities and the UNsystem.Secondly, an annual SDG scenario modellers forum couldbe instituted in support of the HLPF. Such a forum mightassist in exchanging experiences and building capacity, sothat purpose-built SDG models will be developed andnational planners, policy-makers, and delegates can accessall relevant scenario information. Some of the gapsidentified through the analysis here in the coverage ofexisting models could also be addressed. The forum couldalso help bringing together sectoral outlooks prepared byUN entities and other international organizations. The SDGscenario modellers forum might also want to support ajoint research effort to create a quantitative map of theentire system underlying the SDGs – an effort that could besupported by UN-DESA.Thirdly, an online and open database of internationalassessments on sustainable development should becreated. It would build on and integrate more specificcollections of such assessments, preferably based on acommon data standard.52
