and price points in the industry.<br />

Class will begin with basic exercises<br />

to learn the programs, then will turn<br />

to more specific fashion design<br />

projects. Computer-designed layouts<br />

will be a focus, as this is a major<br />

comp<strong>one</strong>nt in many Designer/Buyer<br />

meetings.<br />

FM 261<br />

Fashion Show Production<br />

3 credits (CS)<br />

In this course students participate in<br />

the planning, promotion and<br />

production <strong>of</strong> the Cazenovia College<br />

Student Fashion Show through the<br />

development <strong>of</strong> a concept which<br />

unifies all <strong>of</strong> the comp<strong>one</strong>nts <strong>of</strong> a<br />

promotional fashion production. The<br />

annual fashion show is a studentproduced<br />

and promoted show.<br />

Students will be required to contact and<br />

work with local businesses and<br />

technicians to develop and promote the<br />

show, which includes fundraising and<br />

promotional events, creating an<br />

exciting and pr<strong>of</strong>essional runway<br />

show/exhibition to highlight studentdesigned<br />

work. Students will be<br />

involved in all aspects <strong>of</strong> the fashion<br />

show process including publicity and<br />

advertising, fundraising, coordination<br />

<strong>of</strong> models, participating in the jurying<br />

process for evaluating designs<br />

submitted to the show, merchandising<br />

the products, designing and building<br />

the stage and exhibition area, music,<br />

choreography, and announcements for<br />

the show. Students enrolled in this<br />

course will be responsible for learning<br />

the concepts involved in the<br />

production <strong>of</strong> an industry-oriented<br />

fashion show and will illustrate these<br />

concepts through hands-on projects.<br />

Prerequisites: Sophomore standing or<br />

permission <strong>of</strong> instructor<br />

FD 321<br />

Advanced Patternmaking<br />

3 credits (CS)<br />

Student will explore advanced<br />

techniques in patternmaking (flat<br />

pattern and draping) through a<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> design challenges.<br />

Emphasis will be on developing both<br />

flat pattern and draping techniques<br />

and on exploring what design<br />

challenges are best suited to each<br />

type <strong>of</strong> patternmaking. Through this<br />

process students will develop and<br />

learn to refine their skills in design<br />

and construction problems. This<br />

course will also introduce students to<br />

all the different target markets<br />

(menswear, children‘s wear,<br />

maternity, to name a few) and<br />

identify how patternmaking changes<br />

with each market. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional level<br />

patterns <strong>of</strong> designs will be made into<br />

finished garments that focus on<br />

proper fit, comfort, and quality<br />

construction.<br />

Computerized Patternmaking<br />

(CAD)<br />

3 credits (CS)<br />

Students will be introduced to the<br />

application <strong>of</strong> computers in the<br />

fashion design process. Students will<br />

learn how to use the Optitex<br />

Patternmaking S<strong>of</strong>tware to create<br />

patterns and continue their<br />

understanding <strong>of</strong> Adobe Photoshop<br />

and Illustrator as they relate to textile<br />
