The internship provides an opportunity<br />

to work <strong>of</strong>f-campus under pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

guidance to gain increased knowledge<br />

and career experience in the fashion<br />

field. Seminars accompany the<br />

internship to allow for exchange <strong>of</strong><br />

information about students‘<br />

experiences. The College makes final<br />

arrangements for the placement and<br />

provides transportation when<br />

necessary.<br />

Prerequisite: Junior level standing and<br />

permission <strong>of</strong> instructor<br />

FD/FM 382<br />

New York Fashion Tour<br />

2 credits (CS)<br />

Students will tour fashion businesses to<br />

observe operations and production and<br />

meet with managers in a range <strong>of</strong><br />

positions. Personnel in businesses<br />

ranging from small private enterprises<br />

to large, multi-national corporations<br />

will share insights on how they remain<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>itable in today‘s competitive global<br />

business environment. Off-campus<br />

tours will include trips to companies in<br />

upstate New York and/or New York<br />

City. Preliminary individual company<br />

research and class seminars will<br />

introduce the week‘s experience and<br />

allow students to experience a wide<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> fashion-related topics and<br />

career possibilities. Students will write<br />

papers and develop an individualized<br />

career plan, based upon the<br />

information obtained from the week‘s<br />

activities. (Offered between Fall and<br />

Spring terms, students enroll in the<br />

course for the Spring semester.)<br />

Internship Preparation<br />

3 credits (CS)<br />

This course, taken in the junior year,<br />

readies students for interviewing and<br />

getting the most out <strong>of</strong> their upcoming<br />

internships. Guidance on putting<br />

together a portfolio will also be<br />

addressed.<br />

FM 398<br />

Fashion Show Management<br />

3 credits (CS)<br />

In this course students participate in<br />

the planning, promotion and<br />

production <strong>of</strong> the Cazenovia College<br />

Student Fashion Show through the<br />

development <strong>of</strong> a concept which<br />

unifies all <strong>of</strong> the comp<strong>one</strong>nts <strong>of</strong> a<br />

promotional fashion production. The<br />

annual fashion show is a studentproduced<br />

and promoted show.<br />

Students will be required to contact and<br />

work with local businesses and<br />

technicians to develop and promote the<br />

show, which includes fundraising and<br />

promotional events, creating an<br />

exciting and pr<strong>of</strong>essional runway<br />

show/exhibition to highlight studentdesigned<br />

work. Students will be<br />

involved in all aspects <strong>of</strong> the fashion<br />

show process including publicity and<br />

advertising, fundraising, coordination<br />

<strong>of</strong> models, participating in the jurying<br />

process for evaluating designs<br />

submitted to the show, merchandising<br />

the products, designing and building<br />

the stage and exhibition area, music,<br />

choreography, and announcements for<br />

the show. Students enrolled in this<br />

course will be responsible for learning<br />

and demonstrating the management<br />

skills involved in the production <strong>of</strong> an<br />

industry-oriented fashion show and will<br />

illustrate these concepts through handson<br />

projects. Students enrolled in this<br />

course are juniors who were<br />

interviewed and awarded the<br />

directorship positions for producing<br />

the fashion show. Prerequisites: Junior<br />

standing and selection <strong>by</strong> instructor
