Life Drawing and 3-D Forms<br />

3 credits (CS)<br />

This course explores the relationship<br />

between two- and three-dimensional<br />

representation <strong>of</strong> the human form.<br />

Students draw and sculpt the figure,<br />

concentrating on proportion and<br />

anatomy. Emphasis is on personal<br />

artistic growth as well as process,<br />

technique and content. For advanced<br />

work in figure drawing, this course can<br />

be "stacked‖ (taken multiple times <strong>by</strong><br />

taking Research Topics in the Visual<br />

Arts FA371/372/471 or 472).<br />

On Assignment: Location and<br />

Documentary Photography<br />

3 credits (CS)<br />

Students learn the techniques <strong>of</strong><br />

documentary, photojournalistic and<br />

assignment photography. Students<br />

learn ―on assignment‖ <strong>by</strong> creating their<br />

own photo stories and completing<br />

various editorial photographic<br />

assignments designed to mirror<br />

common assignments for publication.<br />

Students work on and learn to shoot<br />

both in-depth projects and ―single<br />

event‖ assignments. Location lighting,<br />

environmental portraiture, event,<br />

fashion, sports, and action<br />

photography, pre shoot planning,<br />

access, ethics, model releases, working<br />

with the subject, and editorial strategies<br />

are covered. Students also study the<br />

work <strong>of</strong> well-known editorial<br />

photographers and photojournalists,<br />

both historic and contemporary to<br />

create an understanding <strong>of</strong> the history<br />

and development <strong>of</strong> documentary<br />

photography and its role in society, as<br />

well as to inspire more accomplished<br />

student work.<br />

Large Format Photography<br />

and Fine Printing<br />

3 credits (CS)<br />

Large format cameras are capable <strong>of</strong><br />

producing the highest photographic<br />

quality possible, and are thus the tool<br />

<strong>of</strong> choice for pr<strong>of</strong>essional and fine art<br />

photographers when image quality is <strong>of</strong><br />

paramount importance. In this course,<br />

students study the history, theory and<br />

use <strong>of</strong> these cameras, and produce their<br />

own body <strong>of</strong> creative work suitable for<br />

their pr<strong>of</strong>essional portfolios.<br />
