die Anden gereist. Das Feriendomizil rühmt die Teilnehmenden
bei der Abreise als beste Besuchergruppe. Was
haben sich da für Persönlichkeiten versammelt? Gleich
zu Beginn erklärt ein junger Mann mit Down-Syndrom
den Anwesenden nicht ohne Stolz: «Ich bin behindert»!
Ist das der oft beschworene Paradigmenwechsel? Viele
wollen über ihr Leben erzählen. Man gewinnt den Eindruck,
hier haben sie endlich Zuhörer gefunden. Selbst
die Vorstellung der Institutionen wird schnell persönlich.
Statt über die Einrichtung zu sprechen, erzählt man lieber
etwas über sich selbst, frei nach dem Motto: Ich bin
das Projekt! Das Kongressthema lautet Kommunikation.
Welch ein Happening, als sich die Leute, mit Joghurtbechern
und Paketschnüren bewaffnet, Telefone basteln
und sie dann ausprobieren. Alle kommunizieren miteinander,
selbst die Tauben und die Stummen. Nicht nur
miteinander, sondern auch mit der Natur und dem Himmel.
Sie erläutern, wie sie mit Bäumen und Tieren kommunizieren
– und mit Gott. Im Gesprächskreis berichten
von acht Teilnehmern drei über ihre spirituellen Konversationen
mit Verstorbenen und Engeln. «Man stellt
ihnen Fragen und wartet auf die Antworten, die sich in
Gedanken mitteilen», so einer, dessen Vater nur einige
Wochen zuvor verstorben war. «Die Toten wollen kommu-
2014: Fourth congress, in Buenos Aires, Argentina
At the closing plenum of the fourth South American
congress, participants summarize their impressions
from the last few days:
‹Beauty, harmony, brotherhood/sisterhood, collaboration,
peace, overcoming difficulty, and happiness.›
Surrounded by nature at the outskirts of Buenos Aires,
70 participants from Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and
Germany meet under the banner of friendship. A simultaneous
meeting in Sao Paolo is conducted via videoconference.
There is much rejoicing as those left
at home appear on the big screen. It would be presumptuous
to try to describe the atmosphere in simple
words – you’d just have to experience it. The encounters
have a depth and maturity that is otherwise so
often missing. Even when it is very difficult for some
individuals, everyone takes part in all of the activities.
There are nature studies; round table discussions; leather,
felt and painting workshops; eurythmy and movement
games; and of course music and dancing. In
the morning plenum, some tell their painful stories
for the first time. The atmosphere is therapeutic. Here,
human beings with ‹special qualities›, as one participant
put it, are meeting each other. At the evening
campfire, under a wondrous Argentinean starry sky,
some of these encounters deepen. This fire is worth
carrying into the future!
2016: Fifth congress, in Cali, Colombia
Just as many people from the same countries as in Argentina
have now travelled to the Andes at 1,000 metres
above sea level. At departure, the holiday ressort
praises the participants as their best group of visitors.
What kind of individuals gathered there? Right at the
start a young man with Down syndrome declares, not
without pride, ‹I’m disabled!› Is this the summoned
paradigm shift? Many want to talk about their lives. I
have the impression that they have finally found their
audience here. Even the idea of the institutions quickly
becomes personal. Instead of speaking about their
communities, they prefer to speak about themselves,
as if to say, ‹I am the project!› The congress theme is
‹Communication›. What a happening, as the people,
armed with yoghurt cups and packing twine, craft telephones
and then try them out. They all communicate
with each other, even the deaf and dumb. Not
only with each other, but with nature and the hea-
