Nordamerika
Das gesamte Nordamerika und Hawaii bilden eine Region.
Die Entfernung von Küste zu Küste in Nordamerika
ist fast so weit wie von der nordamerikanischen Ostküste
nach Irland, was uns natürlich eine beträchtliche Grösse
und Vielfältigkeit verleiht. Es gibt etwa 25 Initiativen in
unseren Regionen, deren Grössenordnung von grösseren
Gemeinschaften wie Camphill Village USA, einer Gemeinschaft
mit etwa 300 Menschen, bis zum Zusammenleben
in Einzelfamilien reicht. Die Mehrzahl unserer Organisationen
sind Gemeinschaften in denen etwa 50 Menschen
zusammenleben. Die meisten Gemeinschaften sind
ländlich geprägt, obgleich es auch einige erfolgreiche
städtische Initiativen gibt. Es gibt eine wachsende Anzahl
erfolgreicher Bestrebungen mit Tagesprogrammen,
Möglichkeiten des unabhängigen Wohnens und mit Mitarbeitern
«besetzten» Wohnhäuser, das Modell der lebensteilenden
Gemeinschaft verschiedener Menschen
mit und ohne Hilfebedarf, die zusammenleben und das
tägliche Leben mit allen anfallenden Aufgaben teilen,
bleibt jedoch die Norm in der Mehrheit unserer Plätze.
In der gesamten Region sind die Camphill-Gemeinschaften
sowohl historisch als auch gegenwärtig die best etablierten
Einrichtungen, doch es gibt auch einige andere
anthroposophisch-orientierte Gemeinschaften in Nordamerika.
Die Nordamerikanische Konferenz für Anthroposophische
Heilpädagogik und Sozialtherapie (NAC), ein
Verband von Organisationen, die aus dem anthroposophischen
Impuls in der Heilpädagogik, Jugendberatung
und Sozialtherapie arbeiten, ist direkt mit der internationalen
Konferenz für Heilpädagogik und Sozialtherapie
(KHS) verbunden. Die NAK wurde 2001 mit der Aufgabe
gegründet, die Kommunikation und Zusammenarbeit
zwischen und die Entwicklung von anthroposophischstrebenden
Gemeinschaften und Haushalten zu fördern
und zu vermitteln.
Organisatorisches Streben und organisatorische
Fragen
Ein Thema der NAC betrifft die Frage der Verbindung und
Stärkung unserer Region mit der Internationalen Konferenz
und wie die Mitglieder an den einzelnen Orten
unterstützt werden können, sich selbst und ihren Platz
innerhalb dieser zu erkennen – einer Organisation, die
manchmal als sehr weit entfernt von diesem Kontinent
empfunden werden kann. Bisher haben wir mit der Frage
so gearbeitet, dass wir Berichte über die Arbeit der Kon-

North America
All of North America and Hawaii makes up one region.
The distance across North America is nearly the
same as from North America's eastern coast to Ireland,
which, of course, makes us enormus and diverse. There
are about 25 initiatives in our regions which range
in size from larger communities, like Camphill Village
USA, a community of about 300 people, to small
single family lifesharing homes. The majority of our
organizations are lifesharing communities of 50 or so
people. Our communities are mostly rural and agricultural
though there are several, thriving urban initiatives.
Explorations in and successful endeavors with day
programs, independent housing options and ‹staffed›
residences are increasing yet a lifesharing model in
which a community of diverse people, both with and
without recognized special needs, live together and
share in all aspects of daily life and tasks, is still the
norm in the majority of our places.
Across the region, both historically and at present,
the Camphill Communities are the most established.
There are several other anthroposophically-based
lifesharing communities in North America that are
not Camphills. The North American Council for Anthroposophic
Curative Education and Social Therapy
(NAC), an association of organizations working
out of the anthroposophical impulse in curative
education, youth guidance and social therapy, provides
a direct link to the International Council for
Curative Education and Social Therapy (ICEST). The
NAC was established in 2001 with a mission to support
and facilitate communication and cooperation
