Neuseeland
Hohepa ist ein einzigartiger Dienstleister sowohl in Neuseeland
als auch im anthroposophischen Umfeld. Es befindet
es sich in den Jahren seines Bestehens in einem
ständigen Prozess, ein Gleichgewicht zu finden zwischen
seiner anthropsophischen Ausrichtung der Heilpädagogik
und Sozialtherapie und der neuseeländischen Kultur
mit deren spezifischen sozialen Umgebung. Es ist an vier
weit voneinander entfernten Standorten tätig: Auckland,
Hawkes Bay, Wellington und Christchurch.
Ein neuseeländischer Zusammenhang
Die zunehmend multikulturelle Bevölkerung von Neuseeland
beträgt 4,5 Millionen, davon werden zwei Prozent
als «intellektuell behindert» bezeichnet (Statistics NZ
Disability Survey 2013).
Hohepa ist die einzige Organisation in Neuseeland,
die auf den Grundlagen der Heilpädagogik und Sozialtherapie
arbeitet und ist deswegen einzigartig, weil
es lange vor der Deinstitutionalisierungsbewegung der
siebziger Jahre schon eine Alternative zu den komplexen
Heimkonzepten bot.
Der Keim von dem, was Hohepa werden sollte, wurde
im Mai 1956 gepflanzt. Ein Jahr später wurde die Home
School in Hawke's Bay an der Ostküste der Nordinsel
eröffnet. Im Laufe der Jahre kamen noch eine Farm und
eine Wohngemeinschaft für Erwachsene hinzu. 1965 öffnete
eine Schule in Christchurch (an der Ostküste der Südinsel)
die Türen, die sich später in eine Gemeinschaft für
Erwachsene umwandelte. Hohepa Auckland im oberen
Teil der Nordinsel wurde 1997 gegründet und unterstützt
Erwachsene nach dem Schulabgang. Vor zwei Jahren
startete eine kleine Gemeinschaft für Erwachsene an der
Kapiti Küste an der Westküste der Nordinsel.
Beziehung zur Anthroposophie
Im Laufe der Zeit haben externe und interne Kräfte auf Hohepas
Verhältnis zur Anthroposophie gewirkt. Es treten
immer wiederkehrende Fragen für die Organisation auf:
Was ist Anthroposophie? Wie kommt sie zum Ausdruck?
Warum sollten wir sie pflegen? Brauchen wir sie noch?
Durch die jüngsten organisatorischen Veränderungen sowohl
auf regionaler als auch überregionaler Ebene zeigt
sich starker und positiver Wille, mit diesen Fragen zu arbeiten.
Sie führen zu einer bewussten Anerkennung der
Kerngrundsätze der Heilpädagogik und Sozialtherapie
und regen zur laufenden Entwicklung von Ausbildungs-

Hohepa is a unique provider in both a New Zealand
and an Anthroposophical context. Over the years of
its existence, it has continually navigated a balance
working out of Anthroposophy delivering Curative
Education and Social Therapy (CE and ST) that
fits within New Zealand culture and its specific social
environment. It operates in four locations with large
distances between them: Auckland, Hawkes Bay, Wellington
and Christchurch.
A New Zealand Context
New Zealand's population, which is becoming more
and more multicultural, is currently 4.5 million, of
which two percent are identified as having an intellectual
disability (Statistics NZ disability survey 2013).
Hohepa is the only organization working with the
principles of Curative Education and Social Therapy in
New Zealand. Hohepa was unique in that it offered
an alternative to institutionalization, well before the
deinstitutionalization movement started in the 70s.
The seed of what has become Hohepa was first planted
in May 1956. A year later, the Home School opened
in Hawke's Bay on the east coast of the North
Island; this was added to over some years to include
a farm and residential community for adults. In
1965 a school opened in Christchurch (on the east
coast of the South Island), then evolved into an adult
community. Hohepa Auckland, in the upper North Island,
was established in 1997, supporting adults from
school leaving age onwards. Two years ago, a new
small adult community began on the Kapiti Coast, on
the west coast of the North Island.
Relationship with Anthroposophy
Over time, external and internal forces have had an
effect on Hohepa's relationship with Anthroposophy.
The organisation has experienced recurring questions:
what is Anthroposophy? How does it manifest? Why
cultivate it? Do we still need it?
Recent organisational changes at both regional and
national levels have shown a strong and positive will
towards working with these questions. They are leading
to a conscious recognition of the core principles
of CE and ST and the ongoing development of training
