Übersicht
Libanon ist eine demokratische Republik am östlichen
Mittelmeer mit einer geschätzten Bevölkerung von fünf
Millionen, welche zahlreiche religiöse Gemeinschaften
einschliesst. Das kulturelle und sprachliche Erbe des libanesischen
Volks ist eine Mischung von einheimischen
Elementen und ausländischen Kulturen, die im Laufe
tausender von Jahren das Land und seine Menschen beherrscht
haben.
Der libanesische Zusammenhang
Das soziale und politische Klima in Libanon stellt eine
grosse Komplexität im Bildungsbereich dar, besonders
in Bezug auf die Einführung neuer Programme. Das grösste
Hindernis einer Entwicklung sind die fehlenden Mittel
angesichts der ständigen politischen, ökologischen
und gesundheitlichen Probleme. Zudem sind die Instabilität
und Unsicherheit eine echte Bedrohung für das Land
insgesamt. Diese Frage der Sicherheit hat eine grundlegende
Wirkung auf unsere Kinder. Wie können wir die in
unsicheren Bedingungen lebenden Schüler schützen? An
erster Stelle, indem wir jeder Form von Aggression widerstehen
und indem wir Liebe und Enthusiasmus betonen.
Zweitens, indem wir die Pädagogen unterstützen, sowie
sie sich in ihrem tiefen menschlichen Auftrag auf den
Weg machen.
Hintergrund von Step-Together
Fehlende Regierungsvorschriften zur Sonderpädagogik
haben es vielen Verbänden ermöglicht, mit einer ganzen
Reihe von Methoden in Erscheinung zu treten. In der
Step-Together-Schule wurden die anthroposophischen
heilpädagogischen Methoden gewählt. Step-Together ist
die erste und einzige Schule in Libanon, die dem Ansatz
Rudolf Steiners folgt. Sie ist eine Non-Profit-Organisation,
die zunächst Fista-Beirut genannt und von Dr. Wali
Merhej 1993 gegründet wurde. Bis jetzt hat unser Verband
über 200 Menschen mit besonderem Förderbedarf
aufgenommen.
Step-Together begann zunächst als Kindergarten und
wuchs dann im Lauf der Jahre zu einer fest etablierten
Schule und Berufsschule für alle Altersgruppen. Unser
Lehrplan, der oft der wachsenden Anzahl der sonderpädagogischen
Bedürfnisse angepasst wird, umfasst

Overview
Lebanon is a democratic republic in the Eastern Mediterranean
with a population estimated at nearly 5 million,
which includes numerous religious communities.
The cultural and the linguistic heritage of the Lebanese
people is a blend of both indigenous elements and foreign
cultures that have come to rule the land and its
people over the course of a thousand years.
The Lebanese Context
The social and the political climates in Lebanon present
a major complexity in the educational field particularly
for the initiation of new schemes. Due to constant political,
environmental and health issues, lack of funds
and resources remain the major barriers for our development,
while instability and insecurity continue
to be a solid threat for the country as a whole. From
another angle, security being a fundamental necessity
affects our children. How can we shield those students
living in unsafe conditions as they do? Primarily,
by withstanding any form of aggression, and above all
by emphasizing love and enthusiasm. Secondarily, by
supporting educators as they embark on their mission
as a deeply human one.
Step Together Background
Strong deficits in government directives in relation to
special education have allowed many associations to
emerge, following a whole range of methodologies. At
Step Together School, we have chosen the anthroposophical
curative education methods. Step Together is
the first and only school in Lebanon that follows the
principles of Rudolf Steiner. It is a non-profit organization
initially known as Fista-Beirut founded by Dr. Wali
Merhej in 1993. To date, our association has enrolled
over 200 individuals with special needs.
Step Together started first as a kindergarten and grew
over the years to become what it is today, a well-established
school and vocational college for all ages. Our
curricular model, often customized to match the current
growing number of special needs, covers early
intervention programmes to more developed craftbased
programmes, which suits adults’ skills, too. Most
of our students come from a poor socio-economic
