Ford’s history as a successful automaker has been established since 1904, so becoming a Ford<br />

automotive service technician is a solid career move. Longer and more robust than traditional<br />

apprenticeship programs, Automotive Service Technician – Ford Asset (MAP 32) was created to give<br />

you an outstanding start to your career. You will learn theory, techniques and technology specific to<br />

Ford, with an emphasis on electronics and vehicle management system diagnosis. Every four weeks,<br />

for 64 weeks, you will alternate between the College and your Ford employer. During in-class time,<br />

you may be eligible for employment insurance. During on-the-job sessions, Ford will compensate<br />

you.<br />

Note: The official Ministry name for this program is Motive Power Fundamentals.<br />

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)<br />

or General Educational Development (GED),<br />

or equivalent<br />

• Applicants must secure employment with a<br />

Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd.<br />

dealership and then register as MAP<br />

apprentices with the apprenticeship branch<br />

of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and<br />

With specific training on the latest General Motors (GM) vehicle systems, emphasizing diagnosis and<br />

repair following recommended GM service procedures, you will be prepared for work on the<br />

company’s vehicles and beyond. This program’s more in-depth training, compared to a traditional<br />

apprenticeship, will develop your technical expertise in electronics and management system<br />

diagnosing. Your education will be divided between in-class lessons and on-the-job experience,<br />

alternating between the College and your employer for 64 weeks. You may be eligible for employment<br />

insurance while in class, and GM will compensate you during your apprenticeship. Once you finish<br />

both components, you will receive up to 21 GM Dealer Technician training credits.<br />
