2 years/4 semesters Fall Ontario College Diploma Progress<br />
Whether you are interested in becoming a program officer or a consultant, in your recreation and<br />
leisure services career you will improve citizens’ quality of life by developing healthy communities.<br />
This program is designed to meet the field’s demands. It will teach you to conduct needs<br />
assessments, create risk management plans, develop business plans and grant proposals, and plan<br />
and implement recreation programs for all ages and abilities. By completing 800 supervised field<br />
placement hours and integrating curriculum into real-life situations, you will further develop critical<br />
practical skills. The opportunity to participate in supplemental training sessions (sensory training and<br />
High Five’s Principles of Healthy Child Development and Quest 2) will be available.<br />
Note: This program is taught using a combination of modalities. Courses may be taught face-to-face, online or in blended/hybrid<br />
combination of both online and traditional classroom teaching.<br />

Social Service Worker 1203<br />
LENGTH INTAKE CREDENTIAL LOCATION<br />
2 years/4 semesters Fall, Winter Ontario College Diploma Ashtonbee<br />
Social service workers’ professional role is increasingly expanding. Prepare for it with a well-rounded<br />
curriculum that integrates social service work principles, philosophies, skills and theories from an<br />
anti-oppressive and social justice framework. Courses will examine themes related to topics such<br />
as professional competencies, group dynamics, interprofessional practice, counselling, community<br />
development and social policies. You will also integrate classroom learning into professional practice<br />
through two specialized field placements. As a graduate, you will meet the Ontario College of Social<br />
Workers and Social Service Workers’ educational requirements for registration as a social service<br />
worker.<br />
