ACADEMIC ACCESS, LIBERAL ARTS AND PRE-HEALTH Community Employment Services Community Employment Services will help you to kickstart your career, whether you are an adult, youth, newcomer or internationally-educated professional. The program gives Centennial graduates and alumni, and the job-seeking public access to a full range of free self-directed or case-managed services and supports. In the state-of-the-art resource centre at Midland and Ellesmere, you will find free Internet access, printing and employment resources, and information about education, skills training and community-based supports. Weekly workshops impart useful information about job search techniques, as well as tools for resumé and cover letter writing, interview skills and conducting a strategic job search. You may also benefit from individual customized appointments that will guide you through career exploration and planning, postsecondary pathways and re-entering the labour market. Through paid work placements and apprenticeships, you can take your learning beyond the classroom to gain practical experience and make connections. Community Employment Services may cover tool, equipment, clothing and certification costs, and provides application assistance for Second Career. The program also supports local businesses with recruitment and staffing, and assistance to apply for the Canada-Ontario Job Grant. (at Midland) Scarborough, ON M1P 2X6 Occupational-specific Language Training (OSLT) If you are a newcomer to Canada, these five courses will help to improve your workplace communication skills and your understanding of Canadian workplace culture. OSLT was created for people with international education or experience who speak English as an additional language. It consists of 180 hours of specific workplace communication skills training. As these courses build awareness of appropriate workplace communications skills, they also provide an understanding of sociocultural context. During each course, you will spend two nights a week in class and complete an online component.
