Addiction and Mental Health Worker 1235<br />

Professionals in this field may work in settings such as shelters, drop-in centres and hospitals.<br />
The evidence-based knowledge and skills you gain from the Addiction and Mental Health Worker<br />
program will prepare you for the diversity of community health and human services environments.<br />
You will learn to screen, assess, and respond to people with mental health and substance use<br />
issues from diverse cultural and community perspectives. The curriculum will also cover advocating<br />
for equitable access to supports and services. Classroom instruction will be combined with a field<br />
placement, during which you will work with clients under the supervision of experienced service<br />
providers.<br />
Note: This program is taught using a combination of modalities. Courses may be taught face-to-face, online or in blended/hybrid<br />
combination of both online and traditional classroom teaching.<br />
Accreditation<br />
The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) has approved the<br />
Centennial College Addiction and Mental Health Worker program as an equivalent to a Social<br />
Service Work diploma. Upon graduation, graduates of this program are eligible to register with the<br />
OCSWSSW, a regulatory body that oversees the social work and social service work profession.<br />

3 years/6 semesters Fall Ontario College Advanced Diploma Progress<br />
Child and youth care practitioners engage and work with children, youth and their families across<br />
various settings. To prepare you for this important role, our program will examine principles,<br />
philosophies and characteristics of relational child and youth care practice from child- and<br />
youth-centred, developmental and ecological perspectives. In doing so, it will cover themes such<br />
as professional boundaries, child and adolescent mental health, counselling and crisis theories,<br />
intervention, abuse, advocacy and anti-oppression. Besides working in a specially-designed<br />
communications lab, you will complete three field practicums in educational, residential and<br />
community settings. When you graduate, you will be certified in SafeTALK (suicide prevention),<br />
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and Positive Space training.<br />
