Truck and Coach Technician ATS 8688<br />

When commercial trucks, buses, emergency vehicles and other such vehicles need repair,<br />
automotive service techs with knowledge of their systems and components get the job done. At<br />
Centennial, you will spend 32 weeks completing all three in-school apprenticeship training levels<br />
(during which you may be eligible for employment insurance) and attend two two-week work<br />
placements. You will learn about various vehicles and system components (practicing on drive trains,<br />
and electrical, engine, brake, fuel and fluid power systems), trade practices, and electronic<br />
management and emissions. You will then start your apprenticeship’s on-the-job portion with a fleet,<br />
transit, dealership or other employer, becoming eligible to write the provincial certificate of<br />
qualification exam.<br />

MODIFIED APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM – 32<br />
Today’s heavy truck technology requires professionals who are specially trained to work with engines,<br />
fuel systems, electrical systems, gear trains, and brakes steering and suspension systems. This<br />
program will prepare you for career success with 32 weeks of in-class training and two two-week work<br />
placements. Practical application focused on electronics, diagnosis and computer management<br />
systems, and workplace practices will conclude the program. During the program’s 32 weeks, you<br />
will complete all three levels of in-school apprenticeship training. Upon successful completion, with a<br />
75 per cent grade average, you will conduct a job interview at a hiring MACK/VOLVO dealership or<br />
fleet operation, where you will obtain on-the-job apprenticeship training.<br />
