MODIFIED APPRENTICE TRAINING – 32
When commercial trucks, buses, emergency vehicles and other such vehicles need repair,
automotive service techs with knowledge of their systems and components get the job done. At
Centennial, you will spend 32 weeks completing all three in-school apprenticeship training levels
(during which you may be eligible for employment insurance) and attend two two-week work
placements. You will learn about various vehicles and system components (practicing on drive trains,
and electrical, engine, brake, fuel and fluid power systems), trade practices, and electronic
management and emissions. You will then start your apprenticeship’s on-the-job portion with a fleet,
transit, dealership or other employer, becoming eligible to write the provincial certificate of
qualification exam.

MODIFIED APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM – 32
Today’s heavy truck technology requires professionals who are specially trained to work with engines,
fuel systems, electrical systems, gear trains, and brakes steering and suspension systems. This
program will prepare you for career success with 32 weeks of in-class training and two two-week work
placements. Practical application focused on electronics, diagnosis and computer management
systems, and workplace practices will conclude the program. During the program’s 32 weeks, you
will complete all three levels of in-school apprenticeship training. Upon successful completion, with a
75 per cent grade average, you will conduct a job interview at a hiring MACK/VOLVO dealership or
fleet operation, where you will obtain on-the-job apprenticeship training.
